PARTTEAM & OEMKIOSKS technological contribution to Byblos, the “first smart bookstore”
PARTTEAM & OEMKIOSKS, was responsible for the production and development of 36 interactive kiosks for the Byblos bookstore.
This project was conceived for the largest bookstore in the country, Byblos, and the first in the world with self-service interactive kiosks (designed by PARTTEAM & OEMKIOSKS) that allowed to locate the book on the shelf.
After customers picked up a book, they went to the kiosks and the kiosks would automatically provide all the details about the book in the software. If the customer wanted to make a purchase, all he had to do was indicate this at the kiosk.Then, a ticket would be printed, which the customer would take to a specific area and a robotic system would deliver him the book.
Located in Amoreiras, Lisbon, in an area of 3.300 square meters, Byblos bookstore had an initial collection of more than 150 thousand titles, aiming to cover all the literature published in Portugal.
It was, therefore, a pioneer in the introduction of RFID issuers in books, which allowed the immediate and precise location of any book in the bookstore space.
New technologies were, in fact, a constant presence in the bookstore, where searches in the collection were made through 36 interactive kiosks, distributed over the two floors that made up the building.
Considered the “first smart bookstore”, Byblos found in PARTTEAM & OEMKIOSKS an accessible and avant-garde technology, which managed to meet the bookstore's needs, so that buyers could easily locate one of the 150.000 titles available.
The main goal of this technological project was to improve the experience of the buyers in a bookstore. More than just buying a book, the idea was that the customer could enjoy the books and the store itself without rushing.
