Security and efficiency in border control are increasingly important priorities. With the aim of modernizing and accelerating entry and exit procedures for third-country nationals, the EES – Entry/Exit System is being implemented, an automated system that will revolutionize the way the movement of people is managed at airports.
What are EES Border Check Kiosks?
The Entry/Exit System (EES) is a European Union initiative that aims to electronically register the entry and exit of third-country (non-EU) citizens travelling to the Schengen area. This system will replace the current manual passport stamping process, allowing for more efficient, secure and automated control.
EES kiosks are self-service stations that allow travellers to independently complete the mandatory registration before proceeding to the border control post. These units are equipped with cutting-edge technology, including:
- Reading and verification of travel documents (passports, visas, etc.);
- Capture of biometric data, such as facial photographs and fingerprints;
- Intuitive interfaces in multiple languages to ensure accessibility and usability;
- Integration with European border control databases.
By automating much of the process, EES kiosks can reduce waiting times, ease the workload of border agents and significantly improve the security and traceability of cross-border movements.
