With the evolution of technology and the changing habits of the population, connectivity and interaction are increasingly central to our daily lives. In fact, information technology has changed the way we think, act and react. Recent examples are the facial authentication systems, as PARTTEAM & OEMKIOSKS developed (in a partnership with YooniK).
Facial authentication technology, which can be integrated into a multimedia kiosk and has the potential to speed up ordering, customer payments and entrance control in establishments, also reduces companies’ labor costs.
This way, we can see the marked growth of biometric systems in kiosks, which combine security and ease of use. Our fingerprints and facial profiles, all different from each other, are suitable to simplify any transaction or authentication process without compromising security.
The fact that we don’t need a password, cash or card for authentication is also a plus, because not only is no time wasted, but the system identifies anyone in a fraction of a second.
In light of the pandemic situation, the National Security Cabinet of Portugal has set rules for identifying physical persons using automatic biometric facial authentication systems, which demonstrates the importance of these systems for security.
Besides, and in an age when we are inundated with data of all kinds, automatic biometric facial recognition systems are increasingly being used. Although possible, facial recognition technology is difficult to fool, so it also helps in fraud prevention.
Face authentication systems in access control
With the growing adoption of IoT (Internet of Things), the consumer propensity to adopt solutions that increase the convenience of access controls will grow. Moreover, as fraud and cyber attacks continue to exist, there is a need to strengthen security while reducing costs.
Therefore, access control through facial authentication provides fast and convenient access to any location. At the same time, it ensures security, speed, accessibility and organization.
Being contactless, facial recognition systems can be used for various purposes: access management in food processing plants or hospitals; access control of data centers, research institutes and banks; time and attendance management on construction sites; access control in companies.
PARTTEAM & OEMKIOSKS with facial authentication systems at kiosks in partnership with YooniK
Aiming to contribute to the creation of technological innovation and in order to create innovative and interactive tools, PARTTEAM & OEMKIOSKS has partnered with YooniK, a SaaS platform that can authenticate customers on any IoT device to prove their identity.
Thus, an artificial intelligence facial authentication system was developed, which can be used by someone with or without a mask.
Used in PARTTEAM & OEMKIOSKS’ YKioskHotel software, this artificial intelligence system confirms, through the webcam, whether the person standing in front of the kiosk is the same person as the document he or she is presenting. This authentication is done by comparing the photograph of the scanned document with the image captured by the software.
How it works
The purpose of this technology is to map the various points of the human face.
Therefore, when performing facial analysis, some specific features are analyzed by the system:
- Various scars and marks;
- Distance between the points of the face;
- Contour of the face;
- Shape of the edge of the face.
Once the mentioned points have been identified, a three-dimensional image is generated which, after being transformed into a sequence of numbers, will be stored and recognized by the system.
Benefits of facial authentication biometric systems
Facial recognition has benefits for everyone, including increased safety and security, crime prevention and reduced human interaction.
But other advantages can be listed:
1 – Theft protection
Business owners can use facial recognition systems to easily identify thieves. Since these systems are for surveillance purposes, they are also a burglar deterrent (and keeping in mind that they are discreet systems).
2 – Strengthening security measures
Helping to strengthen security and safety, biometric facial authentication systems include fast, non-invasive identity verification.
3 – Reduction of physical contact
Facial recognition requires fewer human resources than any other type of security measures. In fact, it requires no physical contact or direct human interaction, which speeds up the user experience.
4 – Ease of use and speed
Another benefit of using facial recognition systems is that it is an automated system that offers a fast and seamless verification experience.
5 – Accuracy
Facial authentication systems eliminate the risks of fingerprints and human error, in addition to improving the customer experience.
Considering that biometric technology is increasingly present in our daily lives, such as in our cell phones, it is normal that multimedia kiosks also adopt these systems.
Since the beginning of digital transformation, facial recognition systems have been gaining prominence, both for the convenience they offer and for ensuring accuracy and security. This way, and as customer needs change, evolve, PARTTEAM & OEMKIOSKS offers innovative solutions that meet those changes.
